Job Summary: The Web Developer I writes and maintains standard front-end and back-end code that supports websites and web applications. Applies specialized knowledge of web code standards and frameworks to produce complex, dynamic websites and applications that meet standards required by University and governmental policy. Works under close supervision.
Additional Department Summary: Web Developer I builds and maintains websites, functionality, and workflows, using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and other web development frameworks and tools. Reports to the Technical Development Librarian who manages the development team. Works collaboratively within a hybrid team.
The position is eligible for a remote work arrangement.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and some web development experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Some experience with WordPress or Omeka platforms including theme and plugin development
Skills and Knowledge: Experience working with relational databases (e.g. MySQL) and SQL queries. Experience working with Linux virtual machines and SSH. Experience using Javascript, Angular, React, NodeJS, JQuery; HTML, CSS, JSON; PHP and WordPress/Omeka. Experience managing projects and repositories in a version control system (e.g. GitHub).
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to multitask. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to learn new skills and technologies as needed for projects. Collaborate with developers to ensure a smooth and efficient development process.
Preferred Qualifications: Understanding of web accessibility (WCAG 2) and SEO best practices. Knowledge of web performance optimization techniques. Familiarity with CSS preprocessors such as SASS or LESS. Advanced understanding of JavaScript frameworks such as React or Vue.js. Experience with website migrations to the WordPress and / or Omeka CMS platforms. Familiarity with agile development methodologies. Experience with the Linux command line and system administration experience. Experience developing and deploying an automated continuous integration/continuous delivery pipeline.
