Pay Grade/Pay Range:  Minimum: $27.21 - Midpoint: $35.35 (Hourly N9)


Department/Organization: 507121 - Police Operations


Normal Work Schedule: Varies; Shift hours are subject to change to meet operational needs. Some overtime, weekends, holidays, and events required.

Job Summary: The Police Field Training Officer facilitates field learning to ensure that officer recruits acquire the knowledge and skills to become a successful UAPD Police Officer. Serves in an ongoing role as a mentor, role model, and educational resource for recruits and fellow employees. Provides support to the unit leader. Performs standard Police Officer duties while not conducting field trainings.


Additional Department Summary: Must be able to work extended hours to include weekends, holidays, and both voluntary and mandatory events. Must be able to perform foot patrol and work outside in all weather conditions. This position is subject to shift change if deemed operationally necessary. Must meet and adhere to the established guidelines for the use of a UAPD assigned take-home vehicle.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Must be a current Police Officer I or Police Officer II in good standing at The University of Alabama. Must have received a "meets expectations" or higher on most recent performance evaluation. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.


Skills and Knowledge: Must have strong working knowledge of agency policies, procedures, and directives with ability to consistently model exemplary law enforcement duties. Ability to motivate to teach and facilitate learning. Ability to vary teaching/training methods to an individual recruit. Ability to provide critical feedback, constructive feedback, and clear direction. Demonstrated past initiative to maintain/improve police officer skills, knowledge, and abilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to use good judgement, make effective decisions, and demonstrate courage and accountability. Maintain professionalism when dealing with conflict and maintain strict confidentiality.


Preferred Qualifications: One (1) year of experience as a Police Officer I or Police Officer II at The University of Alabama. Previous teaching or training experience. Bachelor’s degree.
