Pay Grade/Pay Range:  Minimum: $56,600 - Midpoint: $73,600 (Salaried E9)


Department/Organization: 820401 - HRC Administration


Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some nights and weekends.


Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Resident Education oversees training and development, recruitment and selection, and academic partnerships and assessment. Responds to resident issues, concerns, or emergencies. Represents Residential Communities on various committees, task forces, and serves as a liaison to the campus community.


Additional Department Summary: Oversees the day-to-day management of facilities, staff, and operations of the residence hall system. Supervises two Area Coordinators and one support staff. Ensures all processes and procedures are consistent and running smoothly for 240+ resident advisors, approximately 125 desk assistants, and 21 graduate students. Leads one of three functional areas: Training & Development, Recruitment & Selection, and Academic Partnerships & Assessment, as well as works in conjunction with campus partners regarding the judicial process within the residence halls. Fosters learning among residents. Promotes healthy living communities. Completes projects and functions. Represents Residential Communities on various committees, task forces, and liaison roles to the campus community. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Holds staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of residence life experience; OR master's degree and two (2) years of residence life experience.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work significant "extra hours" during staff training and selection periods, hall openings and closings, the sign-up process for returning students, and on-call periods. Must be flexible in work habits to allow for the extended work schedule.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.


Skills and Knowledge: General knowledge of student development theories and demonstrated skills in counseling, organization, advising, delegation, word processing, interaction, supervising, management, public speaking, electronic mail use, and creative problem solving. Flexible in work habits to allow for extended work hours. Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.


Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education or a related field.
