Job Summary: The Director of The University of Alabama Student Center provides supervision and management of the Student Center, Student Center Plaza, Student Center Lawn, and programs and services of the Student Center. Manages the Round House and designated external event spaces. The facility houses a number of Division of Student Life departments, reservable meeting and event space, dining and retail locations, computer labs, and common student lounge space. Provides leadership and vision for both the day-to-day management of the operations and the creation of active and collaborative learning environments within the facility.
Additional Department Summary: Supervises and manages the University of Alabama Student Center, Student Center Plaza, Student Center Lawn, and programs and services under the auspices of the Student Center. Manages the Round House and designated external event spaces associated with the Division of Student Life. The facility houses a number of Division of Student Life departments, reservable meeting and event space, dining and retail locations, computer labs, and common student lounge space. Provides leadership and vision for both the day-to-day management of the operations and the creation of active and collaborative learning environments within the facility. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Holds staff accountable for completion of required training. Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and eight (8) years of facility/space/event management or student life/student affairs experience; OR master's degree and six (6) years of facility/space/event management or student life/student affairs experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Excellent organizational skills. Excellent skills in marketing and communication, short and long term planning, financial management and controls, and significant human resource management and development. Understanding of student development and leadership theory and its impact on practice. Knowledge of college union philosophy and an understanding how the college union contributes to meeting the social, recreational, and sense of belonging needs of the campus community. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and ability to work with internal and external stakeholders such as students, alumni, University faculty and administrators, and community members. Strong interpersonal and team-building skills. Knowledge of event planning, audio/visual support, custodial/maintenance best practices, and technology’s role in Higher Education and the Student Center environment. Demonstrated commitment to supporting all students.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Communication, Business/Management, or other related field; OR a doctorate in Higher Education Administration. Five (5) years of professional leadership experience in a higher education setting, specifically in college student unions, facilities management, event planning, or a related field. Demonstrated collaborative leadership and experience in supervising and developing full time employees, part-time student staff, and custodial and trades staff. Expertise in management skills, including assessment, priority setting, planning, training, evaluation, communication, and collaboration.
