Assistant/Associate/Full Professor
Position Summary
The Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama invites applications for a 9-month full-time, tenure track or tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. We seek a visionary scholar with demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and its application across nursing and healthcare environments. The ideal candidate will possess cross-disciplinary fluency in AI technologies—including machine learning, data science, big data analytics, health informatics, and human-centered design—and will bring innovative approaches to advancing education, research, and practice in the digital health era.
Detailed Position Information
Responsibilities:
• Develop and lead a research program at the intersection of AI and nursing practice
• Foster interdisciplinary collaborations across health, engineering, informatics, and design
• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses aligned with expertise
• Mentor students and junior faculty in emerging technologies and innovation
• Contribute to the development of a curriculum responsive to the future of AI in nursing
• Seek external funding to support high-impact scholarship
Potential Areas of Interest (including but not limited to):
• AI/ML applications in clinical decision-making
• Predictive modeling in population health
• Digital health and wearable tech integration
• Human-computer interaction and usability evaluation
• Ethical and equitable design of intelligent systems
• Ergonomics and human factors engineering in health technology
• Optimization of end-user acceptability in AI-enhanced systems
Minimum Qualifications
• Ph.D. or terminal degree in Nursing, Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Human Factors, or related field
• Record of scholarly achievement commensurate with rank
• Demonstrated experience in AI development, deployment, or evaluation
• Strong foundation in human-centered design and human factors in clinical or educational settings.
• Proficiency in data science tools and methods relevant to health and nursing.
• Strong commitment to mentoring, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in academic nursing programs • Evidence of team science and translational research • Background in community-based or rural populations • Engagement with ethical, social, or policy dimensions of AI in healthcare. • Experience with simulation, digital health, or participatory design in nursing. • Currently funded with the potential to transfer funding to UA
Current licensure in nursing; eligible for licensure in Alabama
