Department/Organization: 750801 - Alabama Life Research Institute


Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:45pm; evening and weekend hours as necessary; will adjust schedule to accommodate


Job Summary: The Research Project Coordinator assists with contributing to various aspects of a major research project or program which may include conducting research.


Additional Department Summary: The research MRI operator is responsible for conducting scans for research studies. In addition to scanning, the operator will follow and enforce protocols that ensure the safety of participants, as well as equipment. They will assist researchers in setting up new studies and become familiar with the procedures for each one, under the supervision of the facility technical director. They are also required to make a bi-weekly/monthly checks of equipment used in routine studies.

Because they will be interacting with participants, including small children, they need to have good social skills for helping participants feel at ease, while making sure they follow instructions. They will be learning a lot about MRI techniques and gaining experience with software used in medical image processing.


Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) discipline. Flexibility with schedule is necessary in order to accommodate participant and/or project schedules - may require some evenings and weekends, will adjust regular schedule to accommodate.


Skills and Knowledge: Computer proficiency is essential.


Preferred Qualifications: Prior knowledge of human physiology is preferred. Experience in programming is useful and preferred.
